Getting around Sydney

Sydney has a great public transport system including TrainsLight RailBuses and Ferries, which can be used with the Opal Card or your contactless credit card.

By Opal Card

Opal is the smartcard ticketing system used to pay for travel on public transport in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, the Hunter and the Illawarra. Add value before you travel and tap on and off to pay your fare.  For more information go to: https://www.opal.com.au/

By Credit Card

Contactless credit cards are a quick and easy way to pay for your trip on public transport on the Opal network. If you have an American Express, Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal readers. Just look for the contactless payment symbol  . Contactless payments are available on all public transport in the Opal network.

You will pay an Adult fare when you tap on and tap off with contactless payments. Use the same credit card, debit card or linked device for all your travel all week to receive the same travel benefits of an Adult Opal card. Find out more about paying the right fare.

If you’re unsure whether your card is contactless-enabled, check with your card issuer.
