Keynote Speakers

Dr Elizabeth Jenkins

Elizabeth holds a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences from the University of Manchester (UK) and an MSc in Pathological Sciences from the University of Sheffield (UK). She previously worked as a Senior Biomedical Scientist in the NHS at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, for over 10 years specifically in Biochemistry and Clinical / Forensic Toxicology. She is currently the Assistant Toxicology Manager in the Toxicology Laboratory at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine, responsible for managing and delivering a cross-functional Toxicology service for Victoria Police. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC (UK)) as well as being a member of a number of other professional organisations, including the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS) and The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT).
She is an Approved Analyst under the Road Safety Act (Victoria), AACB RCPAQAP Toxicology Advisory Committee Member and appointed NATA Technical Assessor. Her experience includes GC-MS and LC-MS/MS method development, providing opinions and court testimony, presentations at international and national conferences and published papers.

Prof Brian Keevil

Prof Keevil is a Consultant Clinical Scientist and Head of the Clinical Biochemistry Department at the University Hospital of South Manchester. He is an Honorary Professor in Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Manchester and a member of the editorial board of the Annals of Clinical Biochemistry. He has developed an interest in steroid analysis using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) over the past 15 years with a particular emphasis on developing an LC-MS/MS service in a routine clinical laboratory. He has developed over 30 routine analytical methods and has published over 130 papers mainly on the clinical applications of LC-MS/MS.

Prof Stefan Wudy

Stefan A. Wudy, MD studied Medicine at the University of Ulm, Germany. There, he received his training in General Pediatrics as well as in Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetology at the Children’s Hospital in the Department of Prof. Dr. W.M. Teller, a pioneer of Pediatric Endocrinology. Already as a student, he wrote his medical thesis on the analysis of urinary steroids by gas chromatography under supervision of Prof. Dr. J. Homoki. Since these days, his research centers around physiology and pathophysiology of human steroid metabolism using various chromatography and mass spectrometry based analytical techniques (steroid metabolomics). He spent 2 years as a postdoctoral research fellow (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) at the Department of Steroid Research and Mass Spectrometry (Director Prof. Dr. C.H.L. Shackleton) at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute (California, USA) and thereafter wrote his habilitation thesis on “Steroid Hormone Analysis by Stable Isotope Dilution/Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry”. He is currently Professor of Pediatrics and Head of the Division of PediatricEndocrinology & Diabetology at Justus Liebig University Giessen (Germany). He also runs an internationally highly renowned steroid research laboratory, which he set up together with his longstanding coworker Dr. Michaela F. Hartmann. He has received continuous competitive third-party funding, primarily by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). His scientific work has received many awards. His publications reflect high international visibility, extensive global networking and multiple fruitful collaborations.
