HGSA Virtual Conference 2020 - Wrap Up

A huge thank you to all those involved in making the HGSA Virtual Conference such a great success.  When we were forced to postpone the Adelaide meeting there was a somewhat nebulous idea that we might be able to run something online.  The end product was better than any of us could have imagined. HGSA members embraced the concept with great enthusiasm.

The Scientific Program Committee, led by Dr David Amor, brought together excellent speakers for the plenary sessions and also selected 16 submitted abstracts for oral presentations which were top quality.  There were a further 83 posters which I know will continue to get many visits from delegates until the portal closes at the end of January.  Delegates can also return to view recordings, (with closed captions available) until 31 January 2021, of the parallel sessions they missed or just re-view some of the talks to get every last drop of wisdom from them.

One highlight was the degree of interaction on the discussion forum during the EESIC panel discussion on "Dealing with uncertainty: reporting incidental findings for adult-onset conditions".  This may well be a model for future face to face events to allow many more people to enter the discussion in the time allocated.
